The art of listening

The Art of Listening: A Path to Meaningful Communication

In the modern landscape of communication, a paradox emerges: the more we talk about ourselves, the less we truly connect with others. While the desire to express our thoughts and experiences is natural, genuine dialogue is rooted in the art of listening. The ability to listen actively and empathetically fosters deeper connections, mutual respect, and understanding.

The Value of Listening

Listening is not merely the act of hearing words; it is the process of absorbing, interpreting, and responding thoughtfully to what others say. When we listen, we honor the speaker's perspective, validate their feelings, and create a space where meaningful exchange can flourish. This approach transforms communication from a self-centered monologue to a shared dialogue.

Encouraging Others to Speak

Encouraging others to speak requires more than just asking questions; it involves creating an environment where individuals feel safe and valued. Simple yet intentional actions—such as nodding, maintaining eye contact, and offering affirmations—can significantly encourage others to share more. Phrases like "That's interesting, tell me more," or "I see, how did that make you feel?" can open doors to deeper conversations.

The Role of the Senior or Older Individual

In any conversation, those who are senior or older often have the responsibility to model effective communication. This includes practicing patience, showing genuine interest, and prioritizing the speaker's narrative over their own. By doing so, they not only facilitate balanced exchanges but also demonstrate humility and respect, setting a powerful example for others.

Developing a Philosophy of Listening

  1. Empathy as a Foundation: Approach each conversation with the intent to understand, not just to respond. Empathy bridges gaps and builds trust.

  2. Mindfulness in Conversation: Be present. Avoid distractions and give your full attention to the speaker. This shows that you value their words and their time.

  3. Reflective Responses: Use reflective listening techniques. Paraphrase what the speaker has said to ensure understanding and to show that you are engaged.

  4. Encouragement Through Affirmation: Encourage the speaker with affirmations. Simple acknowledgments can go a long way in making someone feel heard and appreciated.

  5. Balance in Dialogue: Strive for a balance where both parties feel equally heard. This doesn’t mean equal airtime but rather ensuring both voices contribute meaningfully to the conversation.

Conclusion

In embracing the art of listening, we cultivate richer, more fulfilling interactions. The act of listening not only enhances our relationships but also enriches our own understanding of the world. As we prioritize listening over speaking, especially those who are senior or older, we pave the way for dialogues that are not just exchanges of words but shared experiences and mutual growth.

Embrace the unexpected heroes in life's adventure."

In the bustling city of Metropolis, Srnivasan lived a rather ordinary life. He was a diligent accountant, crunching numbers from dawn till dusk, with little excitement in his routine. However, his life took an unexpected turn when he found himself in a series of tight situations, each time rescued by the most unlikely of heroes.

It all began one rainy evening when Srnivasan found himself stranded in the middle of the street, his car broken down. As he cursed his luck, a familiar figure approached through the downpour. It was none other than Colonel Sanders, the iconic face of KFC, offering him shelter under his umbrella and a warm meal while they waited for help to arrive. Srnivasan couldn't believe his luck.

From then on, it seemed as though fate had a peculiar sense of humor. During a business trip to Brussels, Srnivasan found himself lost in the labyrinthine streets of the city. Just as panic started to set in, a familiar tuft of orange hair caught his eye. It was Tintin, accompanied by his faithful dog Snowy, leading Srnivasan through the maze of alleys and back to safety.

Back home, during his evening walk in the park, Srnivasan stumbled upon a gang of thugs harassing an elderly couple. Before he could intervene, a mysterious woman in a sleek black outfit appeared out of nowhere. It was Modesty Blaise, renowned for her skills in combat and espionage. With a few swift moves, she incapacitated the thugs and ensured the safety of the elderly couple and Srnivasan.

As these peculiar encounters continued, Srnivasan couldn't help but wonder if there was a deeper meaning to it all. Was there some cosmic force at play, orchestrating these interventions? Or was it simply the product of an overactive imagination?

One fateful day, while attending a costume party, Srnivasan found himself face to face with yet another unexpected savior. Dressed as Mandrake the Magician, he marveled at the elaborate costumes around him. Little did he know that his attire would attract the attention of someone who shared more than just a love for dressing up.

As the party reached its climax, a fire broke out, trapping several guests on the upper floors. Amidst the chaos, a figure emerged from the smoke, wearing the unmistakable attire of Mandrake. With a wave of his hand and a few whispered incantations, the flames were extinguished, and everyone was safely evacuated.

It was then that Srnivasan realized the true nature of his encounters. Whether it was the comforting presence of Colonel Sanders, the adventurous spirit of Tintin, the fierce determination of Modesty Blaise, or the mystic powers of Mandrake, each encounter had taught him something invaluable – that help can come from the most unexpected places, and that sometimes, the greatest heroes are the ones we least expect.

As Srnivasan reflected on his extraordinary journey, he couldn't help but feel grateful for the series of fortunate events that had brought him closer to these iconic characters. And though life would inevitably throw more challenges his way, he knew that with friends like Colonel Sanders, Tintin, Modesty Blaise, and Mandrake by his side, he would always find a way to overcome them.

I allowed my imagination to go to another level and wrote this story in April,2024!

Unseen messages often lead us to the heart of forgotten dreams and the kindness left behind

The driver Gopal reported to Samaranand that every day a new number written by chalk appears near his car in garrrage. He got curious and asked Gopal not to rub off the number. Gopal observed that the number automatically gets replaced by a new number of single digit appears. They put a CCTV but no one was found to come near the car.

10 digits were repeated, thinking that it could be mobile number and Babulal the trusted assistant was asked to find out about that mobile number.

Samaranand: Babulal, did you get any leads on the mobile number?

Babulal: No, sir. I couldn't trace it to anyone specific. It seems like a dead end.

Samaranand: Strange. And the CCTV footage still shows nothing?

Babulal: Exactly, sir. It's as if the numbers appear out of nowhere. No one goes near your car.

IT Expert (Soumya): Samaranand, have you considered that the numbers might be part of a pattern or code rather than a straightforward mobile number?

Samaranand: A code? That's an interesting angle, Soumya. What kind of code are we talking about?

Soumya: It could be anything from a cipher to a more complex sequence. Have you recorded the numbers?

Samaranand: Yes, here they are: 3, 7, 1, 4, 9, 2, 8, 0, 6, 5.

Soumya: Hmm, let me run some analysis on these. There might be a hidden message.

[After a few minutes]

Soumya: I've checked the numbers against various sequences and ciphers, but nothing concrete comes up. However, I did notice that these numbers don’t follow any simple mathematical patterns. They seem random but might have a different significance.

Samaranand: If it’s not a mathematical pattern or a direct code, what else could it be?

Soumya: It might be worth considering if these numbers have a symbolic or positional meaning. Perhaps they represent something when taken together.

Babulal: Maybe they’re coordinates or a reference to something?

Samaranand: Coordinates… or perhaps they could correspond to letters on a keypad. Let’s see… on a typical mobile keypad, 3 corresponds to 'D', 7 to 'P', 1 to no letter, 4 to 'G', 9 to 'W', 2 to 'A', 8 to 'T', 0 to a space, 6 to 'M', and 5 to 'J'.

Soumya: That’s worth checking. Let’s decode it.

[After decoding]

Samaranand: D-P- -G-W-A-T- -M-J. It still doesn’t make sense. Could it be a name or initials?

Babulal: Sir, what if we are overthinking this? What if the numbers are a simpler clue, like an address or an identifier?

Samaranand: That’s possible. Let’s cross-check these numbers with local identifiers, maybe postal codes or landmarks.

Soumya: I’ll check that. Give me a moment.

[After a brief search]

Soumya: I found something. There’s an old building with the identifier 37149 in a nearby area, and it used to be a community center. Maybe it has some connection?

Samaranand: Let’s investigate this place.

[They visit the old building]

Caretaker of the Building: Oh, you’re here about the numbers? We used to run a program for orphans and troubled kids. Each number was a part of a special sequence to help children remember a certain order. It's a teaching tool.

Samaranand: But why would these numbers be written near my car?

Caretaker: That’s odd. No one comes here anymore. However, we did have a volunteer named Ravi who recently passed away. He was very attached to these sequences.

Samaranand: Could Ravi’s spirit be trying to communicate with us?

Caretaker: Possibly. Ravi was very passionate about helping others. Maybe his spirit is trying to reach out for help or send a message through these numbers.

Soumya: If Ravi is trying to communicate, maybe he wants us to continue his work or solve something left unfinished.

Samaranand: Let's look into Ravi's work here and see if there's any unresolved matter.

[After thorough investigation, they find Ravi’s old notes and realize he was trying to set up a scholarship fund for the orphans.]

Samaranand: This must be it. He couldn’t finish setting up the fund, and he’s trying to get our attention to complete it.

Soumya: We should honor his memory by setting up this fund.

[They establish the scholarship fund in Ravi's name, and the mysterious numbers stop appearing near Samaranand's car.]

Samaranand: It seems we’ve solved the mystery. Sometimes, even from beyond, good souls try to reach out to make sure their unfinished business of kindness is completed.

Babulal: It’s amazing how everything made sense in the end. Ravi’s spirit can rest in peace now.

Samaranand: Yes, and we’ve learned that sometimes the answers are closer to home than we think, rooted in simple acts of kindness and unfinished dreams.

Adapt Like Iron Filings: Flexibility and Responsiveness in Leadership

Certainly! The principle of "Yes also suits me and No also suits me," coupled with the analogy of an iron filing responding to a bar magnet, can be elaborated into a valuable management lesson focused on adaptability and flexibility. Here's an exploration of this concept:

Management Lesson: The Power of Adaptability

Core Principle

Adaptability is the ability to adjust to new conditions or environments, which is crucial for effective management and leadership. The principle of being equally comfortable with "Yes" or "No" epitomizes a mindset that embraces change and uncertainty, allowing one to respond constructively to varying situations.

Analogy of the Iron Filing and the Bar Magnet

  • Bar Magnet: Represents the external influences or stakeholders in a professional environment (e.g., colleagues, clients, vendors).
  • Iron Filing: Represents the manager or employee who must adapt to the changing demands and influences exerted by these external factors.

In the analogy:

  • When the bar magnet (external influence) changes its position, the iron filings (you) rearrange themselves according to the magnetic field (external demands).
  • This represents the capacity to adapt to different styles, needs, and requirements based on the situation at hand.

Key Takeaways

  1. Flexibility in Decision-Making

    • Being comfortable with both "Yes" and "No" reflects a flexible attitude towards decision-making. It demonstrates openness to multiple outcomes and the ability to find value in each.
    • Example: If a vendor proposes a new delivery schedule, rather than rigidly adhering to the old one, you evaluate and adapt to the new proposal if it offers a better solution.
  2. Responsive Leadership

    • Just as iron filings align with the magnetic field, a good leader aligns their actions and decisions with the needs of their team and organization.
    • Example: If a team member requires a different management style (more guidance versus more autonomy), you adapt your approach to support their growth and productivity.
  3. Embracing Change

    • Change is constant in any business environment. Adapting to change, rather than resisting it, leads to better resilience and innovation.
    • Example: Market conditions might necessitate a strategic pivot. Embracing this change and leading your team through it can uncover new opportunities and drive growth.
  4. Strength in Diversity

    • The ability to adapt also means appreciating and leveraging diverse perspectives and approaches. This can lead to more creative and effective problem-solving.
    • Example: In a diverse team, being adaptable allows you to integrate different cultural and professional insights, leading to a richer, more innovative work environment.

Practical Application

  • Cultivate Awareness: Regularly assess the external influences affecting your team or project. Stay informed about changes and be ready to adapt.
  • Develop Flexibility: Practice responding positively to both "Yes" and "No" outcomes. Encourage your team to view changes as opportunities rather than obstacles.
  • Foster Open Communication: Create an environment where feedback is valued. This helps in understanding the changing needs and preferences of stakeholders.
  • Lead by Example: Demonstrate adaptability in your behavior. Show your team how being flexible can lead to successful outcomes.

Conclusion

Adopting the principle of "Yes also suits me and No also suits me," similar to how iron filings react to the magnetic field of a bar magnet, encourages a management style grounded in adaptability and responsiveness. This approach not only enhances personal effectiveness but also fosters a resilient, innovative, and harmonious workplace. By embracing change and remaining flexible, you can navigate complexities with ease and lead your team to success

Ten heads

Ten heads.

He looked down from the top at the massive hall full of rakhshas of various sizes but the one he was interested in was the king who was sitting on a throne which looked like a hood of a cobra. It had to be wide enough to accommodate all of his ten heads. He was amused at the sight of the king. Many questions were racing through his mind about the ten heads. He was wondering,”How does he sleep with ten heads?Certainly he can’t sleep on his sides. Which mouth exactly used for feeding and which one for speaking. He observed that all ten heads were glaring at him from the lower position of the throne.
“How dare you sit in front of me?”
Yes, the rakhshas around also wondered how someone dared their king by sitting and not standing before him with bowed head.
He spoke tauntingly from the top, “You call yourself a Brahmin but you did not have the decency to offer a seat to your guest. You are yet to learn the etiquettes.”
The king growled at his words. He heard the growl as echo as all ten heads were together growling at him. He noticed that all the heads moved in synchronous with each other. He rubbed his eyes thinking that he was hallucinating because of the Brahmashtra which had hit him. Indrajeet was not amused at the discomfiture of his father Ravan. On his order he had brought the monkey after a fierce fight when the monkey rose to the sky, he had to hit Brahmashtra to bring him down. Then he tied down the usual size monkey by a rope and brought him to his father who was the king of Lanka.
He actually brought manasputra of Shiva the great Hanuman. Who willingly allowed him to get captured as the arrow had Lord Shiva’s blessing. In reverence to Lord Shiva he surrendered.
When tied by rope he came with Indrajeet then all courtiers were amused thinking that small monkey had destroyed the loved Ashok Vatika of Ravana where Sita was kept  captive.
But Vayuputra Hanuman was not amused because he had a mission and the mission was to locate Sita. Having located her he wanted to have fun so after tasting the delicious fruits of the garden he went on rampage and destroyed Ashok Vatika. When he found that he was not offered a seat in the court he expanded himself ,  his tail which went on growing with his body until he was looking down at Ravana by sitting on his coiled tail.
Again ten heads bellowed at him for his audacity to laugh at them. The ten heads with 20 eyes were looking at Hanuman at the top.Hanuman could not make out how ten heads were joined with the body, he was getting the top view. When he came in as a small monkey then he had to look up at Ravan so never got the chance to have a look at the neck. He thought probably a side view would clarify his curiosity . He was wondering whether all the heads sneeze together, he was tempted to tickle the nose of one of the heads to find out about sneezing but then he thought why not humor Ravana by asking how he assigns duty to each head. Hewas about to ask Ravana when the ten heads growled again at him.

“What are you doing sitting there?" this time I heard the sound and with a start I got up in my sofa and found my wife yelling at me. I had fallen asleep while reading Sita by Devdutt Pattanaik and just finished Lanka Kand and then the posto which I had taken for lunch took over my senses and I fell asleep with the book Sita on my chest. I was wondering about the ten heads of Ravan when I dosed off. The explanation of ten heads is pretty contentious , it’s more of a symbolic in nature but on the Dashera day we burn effigy of Ravana with ten heads. My fertile mind was busy with the riddle of ten heads when i fell asleep. I thanked the book for giving me a first hand glimpse of the Ramayana's Lanka Kand.

Unveiling the Past: A Lamp's Silent Tale of Truth and Justice

Samaranand was, as usual, engrossed in his hobby of watercolor painting when the doorbell rang. He got up and found his assistant, Babulal, standing at the door with a bag and a broad smile. Samaranand immediately sensed that Babulal had brought something interesting.

“Look what I’ve found, sir!” Babulal exclaimed, pulling a lamp out of the bag.

Samaranand examined it closely. “This looks like a 19th-century kerosene lamp, the kind used in old Kolkata. It's quite an antique,” he remarked, intrigued.

“Yes, sir,” Babulal confirmed. “I got it from a raddiwala, the one who buys rejected material from houses. But there’s something different about this lamp. It feels like it has a story to tell.”

Samaranand agreed. “Let's see if we can get it to work. Babulal, fetch some kerosene oil.”

By evening, they were sitting in the dark on the balcony of Samaranand’s flat, ceremonially lighting the lamp. Initially, nothing happened. The lamp cast a soft, yellow-blue light. But then, the wall of the balcony began to resemble a cinema screen, showing a half-lit street of Kolkata. A man appeared on the screen, looking around furtively as if trying to escape from someone. Suddenly, another man in a hat and overcoat emerged and shot him point-blank. There was no sound; it was like a silent movie.

Samaranand, a natural problem solver, realized that the lamp had come to him for a reason. “This isn’t a coincidence,” he said. “The lamp used you, Babulal, to reach me. It wants this story to be told.”

Babulal nodded. “What should we do next, sir?”

“We need to find out where the raddiwala got this lamp,” Samaranand decided.

The next day, Babulal returned with information. “The lamp belonged to a poor Bihari family in the Tollygunge slum,” he reported.

They headed to the slum and met the house owner, an 80-year-old man named Chotu. “This lamp belonged to my grandfather,” Chotu explained. “He used to work for a rich businessman, lighting the street lamps.”

Samaranand was intrigued. “In the early 20th century, the Calcutta Municipal Corporation required wealthy people to maintain the street lamps in front of their homes,” he said.

Chotu nodded. “Yes, my grandfather worked for a jute baron named Samaddar. He maintained the streetlight in front of Samaddar’s bungalow.”

Samaranand and Babulal went to the street in North Kolkata where Chotu’s great-grandfather had worked. It wasn’t hard to locate the grand house that once belonged to Samaddar, the jute baron. Samaranand decided to dig deeper into Samaddar’s history.

“Babulal, find out everything you can about that era,” he instructed.

Babulal returned with startling news. “Samaddar wasn’t just a businessman. He was also involved in criminal activities,” he revealed.

Samaranand’s mind raced. “Chotu’s great-grandfather must have witnessed Samaddar’s criminal dealings. That’s why he was killed,” he deduced. “The lamp stored this story all these years.”

Samaranand and Babulal returned to Chotu’s home to share their findings. “Your great-grandfather was a brave man,” Samaranand told Chotu. “He saw something he wasn’t supposed to, and Samaddar’s goons eliminated him to keep him silent. But this lamp, it has kept his story alive.”

Chotu was silent, absorbing the revelation. “I never knew,” he said softly. “But it makes sense now. My father used to say that my grandfather was a proud and honest man.”

Samaranand nodded. “The lamp brought this story to us for a reason. It wanted closure. Now, we know the truth, and we can honor your great-grandfather’s memory.”

The next day, they decided to hold a small ceremony. They took the lamp back to the street where Chotu’s great-grandfather used to work. As they lit the lamp, Samaranand spoke. “This light will now serve as a beacon of truth and justice, honoring the memory of a man who stood by his principles.”

The lamp glowed brightly, as if acknowledging the tribute. For Samaranand, Babulal, and Chotu, it was a moment of closure and respect for the past.

As they walked away, Samaranand felt a deep sense of satisfaction. He knew that the lamp’s story had finally been told, and a forgotten chapter of history had been illuminated once more.

Amidst the wisdom of the banyan, aspirations take flight with every whispered leaf.

Father: Son, come sit beneath this ancient banyan tree. Let me impart some wisdom that may guide you in your journey through the corridors of power and success.

Son: Of course, Father. What wisdom do you wish to share with me today?

Father: Have you ever heard of the book "The Carpetbaggers" by Harold Robbins?

Son: Yes, I've heard of it. Isn't it a novel about ambition, power, and the cutthroat world of business?

Father: Indeed, it is. But beyond its narrative, lies a lesson in strategy and ambition. In the story, Jonas Cord, the protagonist, rises to power by strategically taking over responsibilities from his superiors.

Son: So, you're suggesting I follow a similar path?

Father: Not entirely. It's about understanding the nuances of power dynamics. You see, my son, ambition is not about simply climbing the ladder; it's about understanding when to seize opportunities and how to navigate the delicate balance of authority and influence.

Son: I see. But how do I go about doing that without stepping on toes or appearing too aggressive?

Father: Ah, that's where subtlety and tact come into play. You must learn to anticipate your boss's needs and excel in areas where they may fall short. By doing so, you position yourself as an invaluable asset, ready to step in when needed.

Son: But won't that make my boss feel threatened?

Father: Not if you handle it correctly. You must always give credit where it's due and never undermine your superior's authority. Remember, it's about collaboration, not competition.

Son: So, essentially, I should aim to be like Jonas Cord, but without the ruthlessness?

Father: Precisely. Learn from his ambition, his drive, but temper it with integrity and humility. And remember, success is not just about personal gain; it's about lifting others up along the way.

As the father imparts his wisdom, a crow swoops down, perching itself on a nearby branch, as if eavesdropping on their conversation.

Crow: Caw! Wisdom comes in many forms, young one. But remember, true power lies not in domination, but in harmony with the forces around you.

Son: Wise words, indeed. Thank you, venerable crow.

Father: Pay heed to the crow's advice, my son. Nature often holds the keys to our understanding of the world.

Son: I will, Father. Thank you for this enlightening conversation.

Father: Now, let us depart from beneath this banyan tree, carrying with us the lessons learned and the wisdom gained.

As they rise to leave, the crow takes flight, its caw echoing through the stillness of the afternoon, a reminder of the timeless wisdom that surrounds them.

Gathering with holographic friends: where nostalgia meets the future in my living room of memories

It was 2080, Ramaswamy Ayyenger was in his drawing room playing with his latest holographic TV in which he was playing a reengineered version of interactive The Big Bang Theory sitcom series, his favourite. He remembered fondly that when he was 10years old in 2023 when he had seen his father would watch it and enjoy the every episode. Since then AI has been evolving in breakneck speed. Now TV series have become interactive with the help of machine learning. His projected holographic figure can become part of the show. His randomly thrown questions would be picked by the characters like real live persons , they will respond.

As the holographic figures of the beloved characters from "The Big Bang Theory" filled Ram's drawing room, he couldn't contain his excitement. "Hey, guys, come on in! Make yourselves at home," he exclaimed, gesturing towards the holographic couch where he had settled himself.

Penny, her holographic image exuding warmth and charm, flashed Ram a playful smile. "Thanks for the invite, Ram. This is quite the setup you've got here," she remarked, eyeing the holographic surroundings with curiosity.

Ram, feeling a surge of nostalgia, couldn't help but grin. "Yeah, I thought it would be fun to revisit some old memories and maybe even make some new ones," he replied, his eyes twinkling with anticipation.

As the conversation flowed, Ram's attention was drawn to Penny's holographic form. "You know, Penny, I always thought you added a special spark to the show. Mind if I join you on the couch?" he asked, extending a virtual hand in invitation.

Penny's holographic figure laughed, her blue eyes sparkling with mischief. "Sure thing, Ram. But just so you know, I don't take up much space," she teased, settling herself comfortably beside him.

Ram couldn't help but chuckle at her remark, feeling a sense of camaraderie building between them. "So, Penny, what brings you here tonight?" he asked, genuinely curious about her holographic presence in his living room.

Penny shrugged, her holographic shoulders lifting in a casual gesture. "Oh, you know, just thought I'd drop by and see what all the fuss is about. Plus, the smell of butter chicken coming from your kitchen is making me hungry," she admitted, her holographic image looking around the room expectantly.

Raj, always eager to please, quickly jumped in. "Butter chicken, you say? Allow me to fetch some tandoori roti to go with it," he offered, his holographic form already halfway to the kitchen before anyone could protest.

Meanwhile, Sheldon, ever the stickler for accuracy, couldn't resist correcting Ram's pronunciation. "Actually, Ram, it's Archimedes' principle, not Archimedis. And yes, I'm well-versed in the concept of buoyancy and fluid displacement," he replied, his holographic image projecting an air of intellectual superiority.

Ram grinned sheepishly, feeling a flush of embarrassment at his mistake. "Thanks for the clarification, Sheldon. I'll be sure to remember that for next time," he replied, his holographic image nodding in acknowledgment.

Just then, Leonard's holographic form appeared in the doorway, a curious expression on his face. "Hey, what's going on in here? I heard there was a holographic party and I didn't want to miss out," he exclaimed, joining the group on the couch with a grin.

Ram greeted Leonard with a warm smile, gesturing for him to take a seat. "Welcome, Leonard! We were just discussing the finer points of Archimedes' principle and the merits of butter chicken," he explained, his holographic image leaning back comfortably against the cushions.

Leonard chuckled, settling himself beside Penny with a sense of familiarity. "Ah, sounds like I've missed quite the conversation. Mind if I jump in?" he asked, shooting Ram a playful glance.

Before anyone could respond, Howard's holographic form appeared out of nowhere, a mischievous grin plastered on his face. "Did someone say party? Count me in!" he exclaimed, plopping down on the couch with a sense of enthusiasm.

Ram couldn't help but laugh at Howard's sudden appearance, feeling a sense of joy at the sight of his favorite characters all gathered together in his living room. "Well, it looks like the gang's all here. Let the holographic party begin!" he declared, raising an imaginary toast to the group.

And as the laughter and banter filled the virtual room, Ram knew that this was a moment he would treasure forever. For in this holographic reunion with his favorite characters, he had found not only entertainment but also a sense of connection and belonging that transcended time and space.

The Blame Game: Tales of Shrinking Clothes and Expanding Waistlines

In the chronicles of wardrobe woes, there exists a saga of epic proportions—a tale of deceit, denial, and the expanding waistlines that defy reason. It begins innocently enough, with a slight snugness in the shirt or a suspicious tussle with the trousers. But fear not, dear reader, for this is not a tale of mere weight gain; nay, it is a comedic odyssey of blaming everything but the real culprit—the runaway tummy.

Picture, if you will, our protagonist, blissfully unaware of the impending sartorial storm brewing beneath their belt. With each passing year, as the numbers on the scale creep higher, so too does the fabric tension in their once-beloved garments. But does our hero confront the truth? Oh, heavens no! Instead, they embark on a journey of absurd excuses and fantastical fabric theories.

Behold, the classic case of the cotton conspiracy! Our valiant protagonist, faced with a snug pair of trousers, points an accusatory finger at the innocent fabric, accusing it of nefarious shrinking schemes. "Surely," they proclaim, "it couldn't be my burgeoning belly encroaching upon precious real estate!"

And let us not forget the saga of the shirt size shuffle. As buttons strain and seams protest, our hero steadfastly refuses to acknowledge the undeniable truth. "Muscle gain!" they cry, attributing their newfound girth to Herculean feats of athleticism rather than the more plausible culprit—a penchant for pastries and sedentary Netflix binges.

But fear not, for every hero must face their reckoning. In a moment of clarity (or perhaps desperation), our protagonist confronts the dreaded reality of their expanding waistline. With determination in their heart and a measuring tape in hand, they embark on a quest to reclaim their former glory—or at least fit into those trousers from two holiday seasons ago.

And thus, the battle of the bulge wages on, with our hero vowing to vanquish the villainous spare tire once and for all. Will they emerge victorious, triumphant in their quest for a waistline of yore? Only time will tell, dear reader. But one thing is certain—no amount of cotton conspiracies or fabric fantasies can mask the undeniable truth of the runaway tummy.

Leveraging Positivity in Management: A Lesson from the Hunter's Dog

A keen hunter often ventured out with his rifle, now aiming at flying birds since wild animals were scarce. His dog possessed a remarkable ability: it could run on the surface of river water. If a shot bird fell in the river, the dog would dash across the water's surface, retrieve the bird, and return. One day, while hunting with a friend by the river, the man shot a bird, and his dog effortlessly glided over the water to fetch it. Turning to his friend with excitement, the man asked, "Did you see that?" The friend's response was, "Yes, your dog doesn't know how to swim!" Despite the dog's miraculous capability, some people always interpret a positive aspect negatively.

The learning from the above story:
,.........

In the realm of management, perception plays a pivotal role in shaping outcomes. The story of the hunter and his dog, with its underlying theme of negativity versus positivity, offers valuable insights into effective leadership and team dynamics. In this narrative, the hunter represents the leader, the dog symbolizes the team, and the friend embodies the external environment or stakeholders.

At the outset, we encounter the hunter, a figure driven by a passion for hunting. His consistent pursuit of prey mirrors a leader's relentless quest for success in achieving organizational goals. Despite the absence of traditional game, the hunter adapts, demonstrating resilience and creativity by targeting flying birds. This adaptability reflects a leader's ability to pivot strategies in response to changing circumstances, a critical skill in today's dynamic business landscape.

Central to the narrative is the hunter's dog, endowed with a unique ability to run on the surface of river water—a feat that defies conventional norms. In the context of management, the dog represents the team members, each possessing distinct talents and capabilities. The dog's remarkable skill illustrates the potential within every team member to surpass expectations and overcome challenges. As a leader, recognizing and harnessing these individual strengths is essential for fostering a high-performing team.

However, the friend's response—"your dog doesn't know how to swim!"—serves as a stark reminder of the prevalence of negativity in the workplace. In management, negative attitudes and perspectives can impede progress, eroding morale and stifling innovation. The friend's remark reflects a mindset focused on limitations rather than possibilities, highlighting the detrimental impact of pessimism on organizational culture.

Despite the friend's cynicism, the hunter's question—"Did you see that?"—embodies a spirit of optimism and celebration. As a leader, acknowledging and celebrating successes, no matter how small, is key to nurturing a positive work environment. By emphasizing achievements, leaders can inspire confidence, motivate their teams, and reinforce a culture of optimism and resilience.

Moreover, the hunter's unwavering belief in his dog's abilities underscores the importance of trust and confidence in leadership. Trust is the foundation of any successful team, fostering collaboration, open communication, and mutual respect. By instilling trust in their teams, leaders empower individuals to take risks, innovate, and explore their full potential.

In the realm of management, the story of the hunter and his dog serves as a compelling metaphor for navigating challenges and fostering positivity within organizations. By embracing adaptability, harnessing individual strengths, celebrating successes, fostering trust, and combating negativity, leaders can cultivate a culture of resilience, innovation, and collective achievement.

In conclusion, the hunter's dog exemplifies the untapped potential within every team member, while the friend's negativity serves as a cautionary reminder of the dangers of pessimism in the workplace. As leaders, it is imperative to foster a culture of positivity, resilience, and trust, empowering teams to overcome obstacles and achieve success. Just as the hunter celebrates his dog's extraordinary ability, so too should leaders celebrate the accomplishments of their teams, no matter how small. In doing so, they pave the way for sustained growth, innovation, and excellence in the ever-evolving landscape of management.

আমি গিরির সঙ্গে একাই গিয়েছিলাম, স্ত্রী কলকাতায় বাপের বাড়ি, বর্মন ড্রাইভার গাড়িতে বসেছিল ;

Embracing moments of timeless magic, one rub at a time.

After playing Holi, I was relaxing outside our flat when Malik my next door neighbour in Delhi, covered in colors, sat next to me. We discussed minimizing water usage for cleaning. Malik mentioned he typically uses a wet cloth. Then, leaning in conspiratorially, he whispered about a strange experience cleaning his face last year after Holi. Meanwhile, his wife, a towering and dominating personality, occasionally glanced at us from her jhula!

Malik's experience
........

As I stood in front of the wash basin, the vibrant hues of Holi  colour still clinging to my skin, I began the familiar ritual of removing the colors. But this time, something extraordinary happened. With each gentle rub of the wet cloth, I felt a strange sensation coursing through me. My reflection in the mirror seemed to be undergoing a miraculous transformation.
With each clockwise motion of the wet cloth, I felt as though I held the power to defy time itself. The wrinkles smoothed out, the lines softened, and I watched in wonder as the years seemed to slip away, leaving behind a younger, more vibrant version of myself.

Curious and emboldened by this surreal experience, I decided to experiment. Tentatively, I reversed my motion, rubbing the cloth counterclockwise. Instantly, the effects were reversed. My reflection aged rapidly, lines deepening, posture stooping, as if the weight of years bore down upon me once more.

Intrigued yet cautious, I pondered the strange phenomenon. Was it the mirror playing tricks on my mind, or had the colors of Holi somehow tapped into a hidden power within me? With each passing moment, the boundary between reality and magic blurred, leaving me to wonder at the mysteries that lay within the colors of the festival.
The colors which was on my face was mostly the ones I purchased, red and green. My friends were using my colour to play Holi with me.
I kept my newfound ability hidden from my wife, fearing her disbelief or worse, her insistence on sharing the secret. It was my own private escapade, a journey I wasn't ready to share with anyone just yet.

But lurking beneath the surface was the sobering realization that one day, the colors would indeed run out, leaving me stranded in the present, unable to revisit the past even for a moment. And so, I savored each clandestine trip to the wash basin, knowing that eventually, the magic would fade, leaving only memories and the faint whisper of a once-cherished secret.
,.......
Malik stared at my perplexed look shyly. I asked him whether he tried doing the same experiment in the other bathroom of his flat.
He nodded his head and said it didn't happen there.
I started thinking about his experience and I concluded that the mirror and those colours together produced a psychological shift which caused the time travel in his mind , triggered the optic nerves to produce his image of various young age cached in his memory disc. But then I couldn't find any explanation of his getting aged with counter clockwise rub.
After a while Malik left after extracting promise from me of not sharing his escapade with anyone else , especially with his wife.
I thought of borrowing some colours from him ,do the experiment in our bathroom mirror but I resisted the urge. I really didn't know whether he really went through the above mentioned experience or under the influence of bhang he was hallucinating!

Unleashing Adaptive Excellence: Learning from the Jungle's Whisper

In the dense foliage of a jungle, a hunter's failed attempt to bring down a ferocious tiger unveils a profound lesson in the pursuit of excellence. The hunter, startled by the missed opportunity, reflects on his shortcomings and resolves to improve his shooting skills. Determined, he embarks on a journey of relentless practice, honing his precision amidst the wilderness.

As he immerses himself in perfecting his craft, a peculiar sound disrupts the silence of the jungle – "jhup, jhup." Intrigued, the hunter follows the rhythmic beat, navigating through the tangled undergrowth. To his astonishment, he discovers the source of the sound – the very tiger he sought to conquer. The majestic beast, perched upon a hillock, engages in its own practice regimen, perfecting its art of leaping with effortless grace.

This encounter unveils a profound revelation, transcending the realms of the jungle and resonating deeply within the fabric of management philosophy. The hunter's realization echoes the imperative of continuous improvement and adaptation in the face of formidable challenges. Just as the tiger refines its predatory prowess through relentless practice, organizations and individuals must embrace the ethos of adaptive excellence to thrive in an ever-evolving landscape.

In today's hypercompetitive business environment, the pursuit of excellence is not merely a lofty aspiration but a strategic imperative. Organizations grapple with a myriad of challenges – from technological disruptions to shifting consumer preferences – necessitating a paradigm shift in their approach to talent development and strategy execution. The anecdote of the hunter and the tiger serves as a compelling allegory, offering invaluable insights into the essence of adaptive excellence in management.

At the heart of adaptive excellence lies a commitment to continuous learning and skill enhancement. Much like the hunter's resolve to refine his shooting prowess, organizations must cultivate a culture of lifelong learning, empowering employees to embrace new ideas and acquire relevant competencies. From structured training programs to informal knowledge sharing initiatives, fostering a learning-centric environment fosters innovation and agility, enabling individuals to navigate complex challenges with confidence.

Moreover, adaptive excellence transcends individual endeavors, permeating the fabric of organizational strategy and culture. Just as the tiger's agile movements epitomize adaptability, organizations must cultivate flexibility and resilience in their approach to decision-making and resource allocation. By embracing a mindset of experimentation and iteration, leaders can steer their organizations towards sustainable growth amidst uncertainty and volatility.

The anecdote also underscores the importance of awareness and strategic foresight in the pursuit of excellence. Much like the hunter's keen observation of the tiger's practice routine, organizations must remain vigilant of industry trends, competitor actions, and emerging technologies. By staying attuned to market dynamics and customer needs, leaders can proactively adjust their strategies, preempting potential threats and capitalizing on new opportunities.

Furthermore, the concept of adaptive excellence extends beyond the confines of organizational boundaries, encompassing collaborative partnerships and ecosystem engagement. Just as the hunter ventured into the depths of the jungle to uncover the tiger's secrets, organizations must embrace open innovation and collaboration, leveraging external expertise and diverse perspectives to fuel innovation and drive value creation.

In essence, the anecdote of the hunter and the tiger encapsulates the essence of adaptive excellence – the relentless pursuit of mastery amidst uncertainty, the embrace of change as a catalyst for growth, and the unwavering commitment to continuous improvement. As organizations navigate the complexities of the modern business landscape, they would do well to heed the timeless wisdom gleaned from the heart of the jungle – in the pursuit of excellence,

"From oil-slicked shadows to digital realms: Tales of thievery through the ages."

The ramshackle tea stall, nestled by a bylane in a Bengal town, sees a motley crew of customers, dressed in lungis, kurtas, dhotis, and shirts—old-time thieves gathering for tea and gossip. Their routine disrupted when a police van arrives, but to their relief, it's not for them; instead, the police target a nearby IT company suspected of hacking. The thieves, intrigued, learn that these modern criminals were siphoning money from banks using computers. There was a long discussion among the thieves about this modern way of stealing ,they unanimously agreed that there is no thrill in this type of stealing.

The subject of arrest of hackers was the talk of the small town.

Let us find out find out what is happening in the aforesaid tea stall in the evening!

As the afternoon sun cast long shadows across the cobblestone street, the tea stall buzzed with activity, its patrons engaged in spirited discourse. Among them sat Ganesh, a seasoned thief with a weather-beaten face and eyes that gleamed with mischief. He regaled his companions with stories of his ancestors, tracing the lineage of their clandestine trade through the annals of time.

"My grandfather was the first to tread this path," Ganesh declared, his voice tinged with pride. "He was a master of disguise, his body slick with oil to slip through the tightest of spaces. With rope and dagger in hand, he prowled the night like a shadow, leaving no trace of his presence behind."

The others nodded in silent reverence, their imaginations ignited by tales of daring escapades and narrow escapes. But Ganesh's narrative was not merely a journey into the past; it was a testament to the evolution of thievery itself—a saga of adaptation and innovation in the face of changing times.

"Then came my father," Ganesh continued, his voice lowered to a conspiratorial whisper. "He embraced the ways of the modern world, mastering the art of lock-picking and cracking safes with ease. No bolt could withstand his skill, no combination too complex to unravel."

As he spoke, the group leaned in closer, hanging on his every word. The allure of the unknown beckoned—a world where boundaries blurred and the line between legality and illegality grew ever fainter.

But it was Tuku who offered a glimpse into the future, his tale a testament to the intersection of tradition and technology in the world of thievery. With a sheepish grin, he recounted the story of how he stumbled upon his would-be wife—a kindred spirit in the shadowy realm of subterfuge.

"It was on a moonlit night, much like this one," Tuku began, his voice tinged with nostalgia. "I was casing a wealthy estate, plotting my next move, when I stumbled upon her—a maid servant with a twinkle in her eye and secrets to spare."

The group listened intently as Tuku detailed their clandestine courtship, a delicate dance of deception and desire played out against the backdrop of a changing world. Together, they formed a formidable duo, combining her insider knowledge with his technical prowess to orchestrate daring heists with surgical precision.

"But it wasn't just about the thrill of the chase," Tuku confessed, his gaze softening. "We found purpose in our exploits—a means to an end, albeit a dubious one. Occasionally, we'd even lend a hand to the authorities, providing them with valuable intel in exchange for a modicum of leniency."

Tuku continued," Even the hackers have paid us for providing information about various households. We have our data compiled and stored in our computer. We have collected data about senior citizens staying alone without their sons and daughters. "

As his words hung in the air, a sense of camaraderie settled over the group—a shared understanding of the complexities of their chosen profession, and the blurred lines between right and wrong. In the world of thievery, morality was a luxury few could afford, and survival often trumped virtue.

And so, as the afternoon waned and the shadows lengthened, the thieves lingered at the tea stall, bound by a common thread of experience and ambition. For in the ever-shifting landscape of crime and consequence, one truth remained immutable: the pursuit of fortune, however dubious its means, was a journey best shared among friends.

The philosophical tap

As I stood amidst the shelves of the footpath bookstore in Jwalaheri, Pashchim Vihar, Delhi, searching for profound insights within the pages of philosophical books, a strange sensation tingled down my spine. A gentle tap on my shoulder jolted me from my reverie. I turned around to find myself face to face with none other than the legendary Greek philosopher, Socrates. My mind reeled with disbelief as I stared into his piercing gaze, feeling as though I had been transported back in time.

Without a word, Socrates gestured for me to follow him. With hesitant steps, I complied, unable to resist the surreal pull of the moment. As we walked, the bustling streets of modern-day Delhi faded away, replaced by the vibrant sights and sounds of an ancient Greek marketplace. The air was filled with the aroma of spices, the clamor of vendors, and the lively chatter of philosophers engaging in spirited debates.

Socrates led me through the labyrinthine alleys until we reached a bustling square teeming with life. Here, amidst the throng of merchants and patrons, he began to speak, his voice carrying the weight of centuries of wisdom.

"In this marketplace," Socrates began, gesturing to the colorful stalls and bustling crowds, "ideas were currency, and discourse was the art of exchange. Here, truth was sought not in the solitude of books, but in the crucible of dialogue."

As I listened, captivated by his words, I couldn't help but feel a pang of longing for the intellectual vibrancy of this ancient agora. The juxtaposition between the lively marketplace of antiquity and the quiet solitude of modern bookstores was stark and unsettling.

But Socrates was not finished. With a knowing smile, he beckoned me to follow him once more. As we walked, the scene around us began to blur and fade until we found ourselves back on the familiar streets of Pashchim Vihar, Delhi. The cacophony of the marketplace was replaced by the muted sounds of traffic and the occasional honk of a car horn.

"Now, look around you," Socrates said, his voice cutting through the urban din. "What do you see?"

I glanced around, taking in the rows of book stalls and the steady stream of passersby. But something had changed. No longer did the books seem like mere objects to be bought and sold. Instead, they were vessels of knowledge, repositories of wisdom waiting to be unlocked.

"In this modern marketplace," Socrates continued, "the pursuit of truth may take a different form, but the essence remains the same. Here, amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, one can still find the spark of enlightenment, if only they know where to look."

With that, Socrates vanished into the crowd, leaving me alone to ponder his words. And as I stood there, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the modern world, I couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of purpose. For in the strange and wondrous tapestry of life, it is often in the most unexpected places that we find the answers we seek.

The bookseller glanced at me with concern etched on his face. "Sir, are you alright?" he inquired, his voice filled with genuine worry. "Yes," I replied with a reassuring smile, though my mind was still reeling from the surreal encounter I had just experienced.

As I gathered myself, I decided to purchase a few books by Mitch Albom and Murakami, perhaps seeking solace in their words after the strange events of the day. The familiar weight of the books in my hands offered a grounding sensation, anchoring me to the present moment.

Oddly enough, the encounter with Socrates seemed to have lifted a weight off my shoulders. With each step I took away from the footpath bookstore, I felt a sense of lightness, as though my worries had been unearthed and left behind in the bustling marketplace of ancient Greece.

The strange experience had left me with a newfound perspective, reminding me that sometimes, the most unexpected encounters can lead to moments of clarity and insight. And as I walked away, surrounded by the ordinary hustle and bustle of the modern world, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the strange and wonderful journey that life had taken me on.
